The Way I See It

I've always gravitated towards innovation and creativity. Regardless of the medium, I'm constantly fascinated by how artists can seemingly make something out of nothing. Maintaining a healthy curiosity is what pushes society forward. We are constantly reinventing ourselves; a divine metamorphosis that is uniquely human. I am a sensitive man who likes to observe people at their core. And it's of my opinion that everyone is an artist in their own way. I think you can find artistry in even the most technical industries. Many live life in a matter of fact kind of way. Taking emotion out of the equation is often a very efficient way to live. However, the human psyche craves to feel deeply. Fictional or real, we identify with our heroes. We all have the innate ability to influence each other. Whether we realize it or not, everything that hits our senses effects us. I'm a firm believer that what we put into this world comes back to us eventually. In knowing this, let's look after one another and spread love over destruction.

My Story

Growing Up In Los Angeles

One of my earliest memories is taking a tour of Nickelodeon Studios in Burbank. It was back in 1998, one year before SpongeBob SquarePants first aired. I played on their Nickelodeon-themed mini golf course. I met some of the animators and had the pleasure of watching them draw inside the studio. It was so cool being behind the scenes.

In grade school, arts and crafts was my favorite thing to do. Drawing. Painting. Creative writing. Dioramas. I was constantly daydreaming in class. I was obsessed with the make believe. I loved movies, TV, toys, video games and theme parks.

Throughout my childhood, I had friends who were actors, musicians, writers, and artists. They each inspired me in different ways. I was surrounded by creatives and I loved hearing their stories.

My Filmmaking Journey

In high school, I attended an after school filmmaking program. We would watch classic films and analyze them. We would watch and discuss films like 'A Clockwork Orange (1971)', 'Let Me In (2010)', 'Once (2007)', and 'Juno (2007)'. And shows like 'Flight Of The Conchords' and 'Arrested Development'. After that, we broke into groups and created our own short films. I made dozens of short films. I learned how to write screenplays, how to direct, how to act, how to film, and how to edit.

In college, I further explored all aspects of filmmaking. I learned how to shoot and develop film in a dark room. I studied great film scores, jazz history, and world music. I wrote mock screenplays for advertisements and feature films. I studied legendary classic films like 'Wild at Heart (1990)', 'Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)', 'Orlando (1992)', 'Bonnie and Clyde (1967)', 'Rashômon (1950)', and 'Midnight (1939)'. I learned how to use editing software such as Avid Media Composer, Final Cut, Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop. I worked as a campus video editor for our student services department. I worked as a projectionist for university film theory classes. I worked at Universal Studios Hollywood as a tram loader. I even did intern work for a radio host's blog website. I achieved a Bachelor’s in Film Production with a focus in Video Editing.

During college, I was hired as a music video videographer/ cinematographer for musicians like Big Sean, Kendrick Lamar, Isaiah Rashad, E-40, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, SZA, Jay Rock, and Top Dawg Entertainment. I did video editing and sound production work for them as well.

I always had an interest in music. Around this time, I discovered artists like Mat Zo, Flying Lotus, MGMT, Animal Collective, Daft Punk, Deadmau5, and Boards Of Canada.  I taught myself how to use Ableton Live, which is music producing software. I bought myself several MIDI instruments and learned how to digitally create music. I still make electronic music to this day.

Near the end of college, I interned at Titmouse animation studio in Hollywood. I worked on Metalocalypse, Moonbeam City, King Star King, China, IL. I would later be hired as a official animatic editor for a Hasbro's Hanazuki for two seasons. Animatic editors create what is called an animatic. Animatics are essentially the storyboards that are animated. They are the blueprint for the final animation.

From there, I was recommended and hired as an animatic editor for the Netflix show Big Mouth for five seasons. I also worked on a season of the spinoff show ‘Human Resources’. I gained many skills, including storyboard editing, running review sessions, final picture editing, sound & music production. I had gained the confidence to pursue even higher creative endeavors.

In 2021, I decided that I wanted to be my own boss. I brainstormed ways on how I could work for myself. I considered being a professional screenwriter. So I took screenwriting courses at UCLA extension. Then, I considered being a full-time electronic producer. So I took a music marketing course at UCLA extension. I considered being an actor. So I took improv classes at Second City Hollywood.

In 2022, I came across the world of SEO & marketing. I learned how to use my skills to educate others while also making a living for myself. I have always loved writing. And so writing articles on the entertainment business is something that I really enjoy.

I decided to take a leap of faith and start my own blogging business. My website is centered around video editing. However, I write about all aspects of the entertainment industry. These include video editing, animation, audio engineering, cinematography, music production, producing, directing, and acting.

I am so grateful for this new chapter in my life. And I look forward to the future, because the future holds unlimited possibilities.
